you. Our Summer Archaeology Institute "Archaeology Adventure"
field school program teaches history, critical thinking, scientific
method, cooperative learning, ethics and cultural awareness; wrapped
up in a wonderfully fun Summer adventure.

Junior Archaeology Institute Summer Program
The Junior Archaeology Institute Summer Program is 12 hours of fun
and learning about archeology. Held over three days students forth
grade and up excavate, survey, conduct experimental archaeology
projects, and do lab work to help solve an archeological mystery
an our simulated archaeological sites.

School, Jamestown 400 Project.

In 1607, a small expedition arrived in the James River of Virginia
and established Jamestown, the first permeate English Colony in
America. Field School students will excavate a site based on the
Glass Works and Governor’s House at Jamestown. They will lean
how the archaeologists, now working at Jamestown are discovering
how the colonists lived 400 year ago, at the edge on the “New
World.”. Limited to 32 participants. $65 per person. Register

California has long attracted immigrants from around the world.
For the Chinese in the mid 19th century, California was Gold Mountain.
This summer we will continue the investigation of California Gold
Rush era site. Team members will excavate a structure believed to
be home of a Chinese minor and survey the surrounding features.
Last summer’s program was sold out, so get your reservations
in early. Limited to 32 participants. $65 per person. Register at
the Apple Valley Town Hall Recreation Center located at 1455 Dale

Session 2 The Edge
of the Empire, The Grove Site. Scholarships Available!
Was held August 4, 5, & 6
8:30AM to 12:30 PM
Grove High School, Redlands, CA
Sponsored by the Redlands Police Recreation Bureau.
Hail Caesar! But Caesar is a long way away from our site in “Roman
Britain.” Our team members will excavate a site in the edge
of the Empire. So far, we have excavated a Roman short sword, coins
from the reign of Emperor Nero and the Celtic- Icena, Queen Boudica.
Team members will help answer why and how the site was use by the
Romans: What did the eat? Was there a battle fought there between
for forces of Rome and the Celtic-Icena tribe? We will also actually
make iron in an experimental archaeology project. Limited to 32
participants. $65 per person. Register at the Redlands Community

Session 3 “Between the Coast
and the Desert” The Yukaip’t Site.
Was held July 28, 29 & 30
Riley’s Farm, Oak Glen, CA
Sponsored by Yucaipa Department of Parks and Recreation.
On the trade routs from the desert and the to the Pacific, Yukaip’t
was a village that thrived on trade. This simulated archaeological
site is based on the Indian village that gave the of city of Yuciapa
its name. Students will help discover a piece of past
before California was California. Limited to 32 participants. $65
